The Perfect Partner: SOUP Gamma Armchair

The SOUP Gamma isn’t just a chair; it’s a masterclass in material contrast. Featuring a rich Walnut frame and architectural Steel legs, it is specifically designed to elevate the aesthetic of our signature tables.

A Match Made in Design

  • For the FB Dining Table (Walnut):

    • Material Echo: The Walnut frame of the Gamma chair perfectly mirrors the premium Walnut top of the FB table, creating a seamless, high-end "total look".

    • Industrial Edge: The Gamma's black steel legs provide a sharp, modern counterpoint to the FB table’s substantial wooden presence.

  • For the SOUP Round & Square Tables (Oak):

    • Sophisticated Contrast: Pairing the dark Walnut Gamma chairs with the lighter Oak SOUP tables creates a dynamic, curated feel that prevents the room from looking "flat".

    • The T-Leg Connection: The slim, dark profile of the Gamma’s steel legs beautifully complements the charcoal gray T-legs of the SOUP series, tying the entire set together visually.

Why It Works

  • Ergonomic Comfort: The "Gamma" design features a supportive backrest and integrated armrests, making it ideal for long, lingering dinners at either your round or rectangular table.

  • Space-Saving Profile: Despite being an armchair, its slim steel legs keep the visual footprint light, ensuring your dining area remains airy and open.

  • Timeless Durability: Combining the resilience of steel with the longevity of Walnut, this chair is built to withstand daily life while maintaining its designer appeal.

Perfectly Proportioned: The SOUP Square Dining Table

Perfectly Proportioned: The SOUP Square Dining Table

In the world of interior design, there is a unique power in symmetry. The SOUP Square Dining Table takes the "ingredients" of fine Japanese craftsmanship and boils them down to their most essential, beautiful form—proving that you don’t need a massive footprint to make a massive statement.

Small Space, Big Character

Whether you are designing a cozy breakfast nook or a streamlined urban apartment, the square silhouette offers a sense of balance and intentionality that rectangular tables often lack.

  • Social Symmetry: The square format creates an equal distance between everyone at the table, fostering better eye contact and more engaging conversation.

  • The "T-Leg" Advantage: Much like its round counterpart, the square SOUP table features signature T-leg construction. By insetting the legs, it provides maximum legroom and a "floating" aesthetic that keeps your room feeling open and airy.

  • Solid Oak Warmth: Crafted from premium solid oak, the tabletop showcases a rich, natural grain that brings organic texture into a modern environment.

A Recipe for Personal Style

The SOUP series is named for a reason: it is designed to be "seasoned" to your specific taste. The clean lines and minimalist profile serve as a versatile foundation.

  • For the Minimalist: Pair it with sleek, armless chairs to emphasize the table's sharp geometric lines.

  • For the Eclectic: Use the warm wood tones as a grounded base for bold, colourful dinnerware or statement lighting overhead.

Craftsmanship That Endures

At Actus Hause, we don't believe in "temporary" furniture. The SOUP Square Dining Table is built using traditional joinery techniques and high-quality finishes, ensuring it remains the centerpiece of your morning coffee and evening toasts for years to come.

The Actus Häuse Solution: A Beautiful and Mindful Way of Living

The harmonious, mindful, and beautiful philosophy of "Work & Life Mosaic," ACTUS häuse has articulated a crystal-clear and compelling brand philosophy. Our belief is to enhance the quality of life in Singapore, Japan, and wherever you are based, by "promoting the concept of a 'beautiful and mindful way of living'".

This statement transcends mere commerce; it is our cultural and value proposition that frames the consumption of our products as your investment in personal well-being. We offer "thoughtful and well-designed solutions for a comfortable lifestyle," positioning ourselves as a partner in the creation of a better home environment.

This philosophy is manifested in a holistic and carefully curated product offering. ACTUS häuse is not merely a furniture store; it is an interior shop providing "imported furniture, original furniture, home accessories, and kitchenware". This broad portfolio, which also includes children's furniture, office furniture, and seasonal gifts, enables the brand to serve as a "one-stop lifestyle & furniture shop" for furnishing a complete lifestyle, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic and functional vision.

A key element of this curation is the brand's unique blend of global and Japanese sensibilities. ACTUS häuse has built our unique identity on aiding "in the development of Japanese life, with a focus on European furniture and textiles" while tapping into Singapore's unique proposition as a trading hub to reach out globally.

This approach demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of design history and a commitment to adapting global trends—such as the Scandinavian modern take on hygge—to the specific needs and aesthetics of Singaporean homes. The result is a collection that feels both worldly and intimately familiar to the locals and foreigners alike, aspirational and deeply practical. The goal is not just to fill a space with objects, but to thoughtfully compose an environment that fosters a more mindful and less stressful existence.

We hope to share with you more of the "Work & Life Mosaic" through the lens of a single, versatile sofa collection of ours. The versatility of our sofas will showcase the themes - "Adaptable Living", "Shared Space" and "Personal Sanctuary". It’s not just furniture. It’s a framework for a more mindful, beautiful way of living. It's the deliberate choice to shape your world. Welcome to the ACTUS häuse.

Actus Hause Kids' Furniture 2025

Actus Hause Kids' Furniture 2025

Actus Hause Kids' Furniture: A Strategic Blueprint for Child-Centric Living Spaces

I. Executive Overview: Our IN-Hause Strategic Approach to Children's Environments

Actus hause by atomi viewed the children's furniture not merely as functional items but as integral components within a child's evolving developmental landscape and the broader context of family life. The core philosophy centers on creating living and study spaces that are profoundly adaptive, inherently supportive of growth, and meticulously designed for enduring utility. Our vision for kids furniture is articulated through a multi-faceted presentation that draws upon the expertise of residential design professionals, and the product designers themselves, signaling a comprehensive and thoughtfully curated focus on our future leaders of the world - the growing kids. This unique focus and perspectives position us beyond simple retail, suggesting an unique market positioning rooted in considered design and a deep understanding of the children's needs.

The decision to frame its offerings within an advice-centric format, exemplified by the theme "How to Make KIDS’ SPACES? WHEN and WHERE?", showcase our strategic intent to operate as a thought leader in the domain of children's well-being through environmental design. We hope to appeal directly to discerning parents who seek not just products, but also validated guidance in creating optimal environments for their children. The implication is a brand striving for a more profound customer relationship, one built on shared values concerning child development and informed decision-making.

II. Designing for Growth: Adapting Spaces to Children's Developmental Milestones

A. The Evolving Needs of a Child: From Infancy to Adolescence we demonstrates a keen understanding that a child's spatial needs are dynamic, evolving significantly from infancy through adolescence. Essential during the growing up stages, its important to create a "small territory near the parents," such as a designated corner in the living room or an adjacent Japanese-style room equipped with toy boxes and small desks, is crucial for fostering early independence. As children transition towards elementary school age, the desire for a personal room often emerges. By having such a space, or even a dedicated area for managing the kids' belongings, we want to create a zone for "fostering independence rather than just studying".

Study habits also transform with age. Younger elementary students tend to study more within the living/dining/kitchen (LDK) area. This shifts for older elementary students, who often divide their study time between the living room and their own rooms. By middle school, the trend reverses, with a preference for studying in their own rooms, a pattern that solidifies further in high school. This detailed understanding of developmental progression aligned our position of the ACTUS Kids' furniture not as static pieces, but as adaptable solutions that can support a child through various life stages, addressing a primary concern for parents seeking longevity and relevance in their investments.

B. Fostering Independence and Self-Management through Spatial Design A central tenet in Actus's philosophy is the role of a child's personal space in cultivating self-reliance and organizational skills. We could not stress more on the importance of providing children with a dedicated area where they can "manage their belongings" is instrumental in promoting self-reliance. This perspective frames the child's room, or even a personal desk and storage unit, as a practical tool for instilling a sense of responsibility. This initial step aims to "teach them to manage their belongings," laying a foundation for organizational habits before a desk is even introduced. Such an approach connects the tangible attributes of furniture to the higher-order parental aspiration of nurturing a child's personal development and independence, thereby elevating the perceived value of the product beyond its physical form. This focus on developmental benefits suggests that Actus is not merely selling furniture for a specific age but is offering a system that can evolve alongside the child, potentially leading to a sustained relationship with the brand as family needs change over time.

C. Navigating the "Living Room Study" Trend: Expert Perspectives This type of study often occurs at the dining table, with potential interference with meal preparation and often unsuitable lighting conditions. We hope our customers can create a distinct study area within the LDK or, ideally, a desk situated in a room adjacent to the main living space. This practical critique is complemented by the insights of product designer whose inspirations came from the common scenario of children studying in family living areas. The design goal for VARIO was to create a "smart, space-saving desk suitable for living/dining areas".

This dual approach—acknowledging a common behavior while simultaneously offering refined, purpose-built solutions—demonstrates both market awareness and a commitment to product innovation. By addressing the practicalities of modern family life, where dedicated studies or large children's rooms may not always be available, Actus positions products like VARIO as thoughtful responses to real-world constraints. This preempts potential customer concerns about space limitations and showcases the brand as an empathetic problem-solver, capable of integrating children's study needs harmoniously within shared family environments.

III. The Actus Furniture Ecosystem: Enduring Design, Quality, and Ergonomics

A. "Long-Life Design": A Philosophy of Durability and Timelessness A cornerstone of the Actus brand identity is its commitment to "long-life design," a philosophy that champions the creation of children's furniture built for enduring quality and timeless aesthetic appeal. This principle directly challenges the prevailing culture of disposable or short-lifespan products. We emphasize this "long-lasting quality," powerfully illustrated by an anecdote of a Japanese customer whose daughter, at age 20, still cherished and actively used the Actus desk purchased during her elementary school years. This narrative extends beyond mere physical robustness; it speaks to an emotional durability, where furniture becomes a beloved part of a family's history, fostering a deep-seated brand loyalty. Our "long-selling desk series," further underscoring our commitment to designs that transcend fleeting trends. This focus on longevity appeals to consumers seeking tangible value, sustainability, and pieces that can adapt as their child grows or even be passed on, representing a significant differentiator in a competitive market.

B. Material Consciousness: The Strategic Use of Natural and Beneficial Materials Actus demonstrates a deliberate and thoughtful approach to material selection, with a particular emphasis on natural and beneficial options for children's furniture. The introduction of the usage of linoleum, a key material in the SARCLE and THEO desk series, and a "natural material made primarily from linseed oil," valued for its "antibacterial and antiviral properties, durability, elasticity, and suitability for writing". The composition of this material—linseed oil, wood flour, rosin, limestone, natural pigments, and jute—is transparently communicated, appealing to an increasingly health-conscious and environmentally aware consumer base. In an era where product safety and indoor environmental quality are paramount concerns for parents, the choice of materials like linoleum, with its inherent hygienic properties, serves as a compelling selling point. This focus on material integrity positions ACTUS hause as a responsible brand that prioritizes child well-being down to the most fundamental components of its products, potentially justifying a premium and reinforcing trust.

C. Ergonomics for Healthy Development: Designing for Children's Well-being The principles of ergonomic design are central to Actus's children's furniture, particularly in seating, which centre ergonomics as "designing to fit human needs". This philosophy is embodied in Actus's ergonomic chairs for children, which are crafted from solid wood to complement their desk series. These chairs feature adjustable seat and footrest heights, meticulously designed to help children maintain a "natural forward-leaning posture suitable for studying". Crucially, these chairs are conceived for "long-term use, even as children grow into adults," aligning seamlessly with the overarching "long-life design" ethos. This attention to ergonomic detail directly addresses parental concerns regarding the physical impact of prolonged periods of sitting and study. By prioritizing features that support healthy posture and proper physical development, Actus positions itself as a brand deeply invested in children's long-term health and well-being.

D. Signature Product Lines: Functionality Meets Thoughtful Design Actus's design philosophies are tangibly expressed through its signature product lines, each conceived with a distinct purpose and user scenario in mind.

  • The VARIO Desk, designed by Kazuhito Ishida over a decade ago, was a pioneering response to the observation of children studying within family living spaces. It is characterized as a "smart, space-saving desk suitable for living/dining areas".
  • The SARCLE Desk series, another of Ishida's long-selling designs, features a distinctive asymmetrical form. A key element is its "20cm protrusion," intentionally designed to "facilitate parent-child interaction during study." This transforms the desk from a solitary workspace into a shared environment, with Ishida noting the aim was to "design not just a child's space but also the parent-child relationship". An optional side desk, introduced in 2021, allows the SARCLE to be configured into an L-shaped workspace, enhancing its functionality and making it suitable for adult use as well. This particular design choice elevates the product beyond mere furniture, positioning it as a facilitator of family connection and shared learning experiences—a sophisticated marketing angle that resonates with the emotional needs of families.
  • The THEO Desk is mentioned alongside SARCLE, notably for its incorporation of the beneficial linoleum surface material.
  • The Foppish Desk is also cited as one of Ishida's enduring and popular desk series.

Introducing concepts like the "commanding position" for desk placement—where one sits with their back to the wall facing the entrance to enhance concentration by reducing anxiety from unseen areas—as suggested by designer Ishida, adds a further layer of expert guidance. This subtly reinforces Actus's role as a comprehensive advisor in creating optimal learning environments, not merely a vendor of goods. It also cleverly connects principles of children's study spaces to established concepts of adult productivity and psychological comfort, enhancing the perceived sophistication and value of the advice and, by extension, the products.

IV. Practical Solutions for Modern Families: Addressing Real-World Challenges

A. Optimizing Small Spaces: The Role of Smart Design and Planning Recognizing that space is often a premium in modern homes, Actus provides tangible solutions for effectively furnishing smaller children's rooms. Our Japanse partners have amassed considerable data over 20 years, offering deep understanding into common customer challenges, spatial configurations, and evolving preferences in children's room design. This wealth of experience likely informs not only customer advice but also ongoing product development. For particularly compact rooms or shared sibling spaces, we hope to draw your attention to the utility of "desks integrated with wall storage," a practical design approach that maximizes functionality without compromising limited floor space. These offerings underscore our commitment to addressing practical, real-world constraints faced by families.

B. Managing Growing Needs: Storage Solutions for Evolving Belongings A universal parental experience is the steady accumulation of a child's possessions. As parents, we must start planning for evolving storage requirements. By proactively highlighting this future need, we guide our customers towards considering adaptable and scalable storage solutions from an earlier stage. This approach can encourage investment in more comprehensive furniture systems initially or foster a plan for subsequent purchases, reflecting a consultative sales strategy that anticipates and solves long-term customer problems.

C. Considerations for Siblings: Harmonizing Shared Spaces Actus extends its thoughtful approach to families with multiple children, particularly those sharing rooms or study areas. We recommend our customers to choose matching designs to create a sense of harmony and visual coherence. A critical element supporting this advice is Actus's policy to "maintain product lines for extended periods." Furthermore, the company commits to notifying customers if a previously purchased item or line is slated for discontinuation. This operational practice is significant; it alleviates a common parental anxiety about being unable to find matching pieces for a younger sibling or to expand a room's furnishings consistently over time. Such transparency and commitment to product line longevity foster customer trust and loyalty, making Actus an attractive option for families planning for growth and seeking enduring aesthetic consistency.

V. Strategic Synthesis: Actus's Competitive Edge in the Children's Furniture Market

A. Core Value Proposition: Beyond Furniture to Holistic Child Development The overarching value proposition presented by Actus transcends the mere provision of physical furniture. Instead, it centers on delivering holistic solutions that are deeply intertwined with principles of child development, the enhancement of family well-being, and the promise of long-term value. The consistent emphasis across its communications on expert advice, adaptability to growth stages, the fostering of independence, designs that encourage family interaction (such as the SARCLE desk), durable "long-life" construction, and the conscientious use of safe and beneficial materials collectively shapes this proposition. Actus, therefore, positions itself not just as a retailer, but as a partner in creating nurturing and supportive environments for children.

B. Key Strategic Pillars: Durability, Adaptability, and Family-Centric Design Several foundational elements emerge as the strategic pillars defining Actus's approach in the children's furniture market. First is the unwavering commitment to durability, manifested in "long-life" products designed to withstand years of use and remain relevant. Second is adaptability, evident in furniture that evolves with a child's developmental stages, changing study habits, and varying spatial needs. Third is a profound focus on family-centric design, exemplified by products like the SARCLE desk, which are intentionally engineered to support and enhance parent-child bonds and interactions. These pillars are consistently reinforced throughout the expert advice and product information provided, creating a coherent and compelling brand narrative.

C. Building Trust through Expertise and Transparency Actus strategically leverages expertise and transparency to cultivate customer trust and confidence. The inclusion of perspectives from a residential design expert, an experienced sales advisor, and a product designer lends significant credibility to its recommendations and product rationale. Clear explanations regarding material choices, such as the benefits of linoleum, and the thoughtful design intentions behind specific features, like the SARCLE desk's communication space, further underscore a commitment to transparency. This educational approach, which empowers consumers with knowledge, is instrumental in building a strong foundation of trust. The consistent narrative woven through these diverse expert voices suggests a robust internal alignment on brand values and product philosophy within Actus. This internal coherence is a vital asset, likely translating into a more consistent, authentic, and compelling customer experience across all touchpoints, thereby reinforcing the integrity and appeal of the brand.

By prioritizing values such as longevity, child development, material safety, and positive family dynamics, we strive to distinguish ourselves from competitors who may focus primarily on price or transient aesthetics. While, these qualities are challenging for us in Singapore, which is more of a mass-market or fast-furniture brands, we hope to replicate ACTUS Japan with authenticity, allowing us to command a premium and cultivate a loyal customer base. ACTUS hause hope to attract and educate discerning consumers who are actively researching optimal solutions for their children's environments, positioning Actus as the natural and trusted choice when purchase decisions are made.

VI. Conclusions

We want to position our children's furniture with a clear and sophisticated market strategy centering on holistic child development, enduring quality, and the fostering of positive family dynamics. We are more than a purveyor of goods; we are the knowledge centre, empowering parents who are seeking to create optimal living and learning environments for their children. Our key differentiators include a steadfast commitment to "long-life design," the thoughtful integration of ergonomic principles, a conscious selection of beneficial and natural materials like linoleum, and innovative product features designed to support parent-child interaction.

Ultimately, Actus hause hopes to create a distinct niche by emphasizing enduring value over transient trends, provide developmental support over mere functionality, in order to meet the needs of discerning families seeking quality, durability, and a deeper engagement with the products that shape their children's formative years.

ACTUS häuse turns 8 this April 12th, 2025
"Where have the past 96 months gone? We have been at the same location, #04-28 Mandarin Gallery, Orchard Road, Singapore, for the last 8 years, bringing ACTUS häuse to you. On behalf of everyone at ACTUS häuse in Singapore and Japan, I’d like to thank each of you for your purchases, support, and encouragement to ACTUS häuse over these past eight years." ~ Andrew TAN, co-founder of ACTUS häuse & atomi
I owe my drive, determination, and grit to my humble beginnings. My 16 years in entrepreneurship (establishing atomi pte ltd) stem from watching my parents work hard to support our family. They raised us in a rented flat, yet managed to send my sister and me to university while facing challenges in a large extended family. Their efforts inspired me to appreciate what I have and not take anything for granted.

ACTUS häuse at 04-28 Mandarin Gallery

My journey began with a decade of corporate work before I bravely leaped to establish atomi. Since I was a fresh graduate, there’s no room for a graduation tour, a sabbatical, or even the concept of work-life balance, as we work 7 days a week; my focus is unwavering as I provide for my family and everyone in the atomi family.

Building a brighter future for my two daughters

Bringing in Actus Hause by Atomi has not been easy. In the past eight years, we have faced tough competition and challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and a tariff war. Yet, despite all these, we are soldiering forward with pride, determination, and perseverance. Running a business is tough; managing two is crazy, and collectively, a 25-years worth of collective time in Orchard Road within the same building feels like eternity. If this is not grit, what is?

www.actushause.com

As ACTUS häuse by atomi approaches its 8th anniversary on April 12, 2025, co-founder Andrew TAN embraces the opportunity to expand our businesses in Japan and Singapore. These countries have played a pivotal role in shaping our personal, family, professional, and business journeys, and we are excited to pursue our highest potential.
